Home Health Care

Administrator log in   "Those nurses’ visits sure mean a lot to me. They have good ideas about how to handle things when I’m feeling poorly. It eases my sister’s mind, too. They answer her questions and show her how to do the things she’s never done before."

Home health care is a service prescribed by physicians to help patients who need some skilled medical care or periodic observation by a trained professional. The advantage of home health care is that the patient can stay at home rather than go to a skilled nursing facility. A registered nurse comes to visit one to three times during the week. A nurse’s aide may also come to help with personal care tasks such as bathing and shaving.
Home health care is generally covered by Medicare but does not include help with cooking, cleaning, or laundry. If the person you care for needs this type of assistance, you may want to look at our listings about In-Home Care Providers. For more information about this and other types of care available, see our article about Getting Help.
